First-time vs returning, and "off the beaten path"

Why your route might skip Tokyo and Kyoto, and how to change that.

By default, a first trip anchors on Tokyo and Kyoto with famous day trips (Nara, Nikko, Hakone). A returning visitor is steered toward second-tier hubs (Kanazawa, Hiroshima, Matsumoto, Takayama) and less-visited regions instead, but only for cities the travel log shows you haven’t already covered.

The wizard also asks directly which best describes you: top sights, off the beaten path, or a mix. Choosing "off the beaten path" on a first trip steers city selection the same way a returning visitor’s route would, while keeping the gentler first-timer pace. Choosing "top sights" keeps the golden route even if you’ve been before.
