We visited Gujo Hachiman Castle during close to the end of winter. Though the trees surrounding didn’t bring out the flavour due to the season, the castle itself is still beautiful. Easy 20mins hike up from the town centre.
The walk towards the castle was fun. I thought the castle was fully renovated but not really. It’s still wood with creaking noises. 🤭 The view from the castle was great too. Definitely gonna visit Gujo Hachiman in a different season. There’s a souvenir shop and a snack bar outside the castle beside the ticket booth.
Visited on a Saturday afternoon and it was not that crowded. Had a stroll uphill with autumn leaves around. The slope path was shared with cars so be careful. If you take the stairs, it’s faster but quite uneven.
I visited Gujo last week, as well as almost exactly one year ago. And despite it not being an original castle, I very much love this one as much as the original 12 because they have rebuilt the interior out of wood instead of concrete. The walk around the outer wall is so gorgeous, as well as the views from the tower. Staff are always wonderful and the parking lot right next door is free. What more could you ask for?
The Castel is very well preserved. It is a small one compared to the Himeji Castel. It has a museum inside but only in Japanese. The artifacts showed are interesting and well preserved and the views are beautiful. There is a parking place close to the Castel if you dare to drive the uphill very narrow road that is one way.
