Who Iga is for
History buffs, families and anyone drawn to the ninja story who wants the real birthplace rather than a theme park.
Iga, sometimes called Iga-Ueno, was one of the two historic homes of ninja tradition, its isolated valleys producing the Iga-ryu school of espionage. The Iga-ryu Ninja Museum demonstrates trick floors and hidden weapons, while Ueno Castle stands on a high stone base above the town. Iga was also the birthplace of the haiku master Matsuo Basho, remembered at a small memorial hall.
