The venue has been running since July 2018, making it an eight-year run by the time it closes. Located a short walk from Shin-Toyosu Station on the Yurikamome Line, teamLab Planets draws visitors into a series of immersive rooms where water, light, and projected imagery interact at floor level. The format is deliberately physical: guests remove their shoes and wade through shallow water in several of the spaces, which sets it apart from conventional gallery experiences.

What this means if you are planning a visit

With the closure window confirmed but the exact end date still listed as "by the end of 2027", there is no final day announced yet. That said, a few practical points are worth noting now.

Book tickets well in advance. Closure announcements at popular venues typically drive a surge in bookings. teamLab Planets already operates on a timed-entry ticketing system, with slots selling out days or weeks ahead during busy periods. Tickets are available through the official teamLab website. Adult tickets have been priced at around ¥3,200, though prices can vary by date and season - check the official site for current pricing when booking.

Go earlier in the day if possible. The venue is busiest in the afternoon and early evening. Morning slots, particularly on weekdays, tend to be quieter, which makes a genuine difference in spaces that feel cramped when crowded.

Factor in travel time. From Toyosu Station (Yurikamome Line or Tokyo Metro Yurakucho Line), the venue is roughly a 10-minute walk. From Shibuya, allow around 30 to 40 minutes in total. From Tokyo Station, the Yurakucho Line to Toyosu takes approximately 20 minutes.

Context

teamLab Planets is one of two major teamLab venues in Tokyo. teamLab Borderless, which originally opened in Odaiba, relocated to Azabudai Hills in Minato ward and reopened in February 2024. That venue is not affected by this announcement and remains open. Visitors who miss Planets before its closure will still have the Azabudai Hills location as an alternative, though the two venues have different layouts and experiences.

For travellers with a specific interest in the Planets format - particularly the wading rooms and the garden installation - this closure is the relevant deadline to plan around.
